SUSI Partners AG, a leading Swiss-based sustainable energy infrastructure fund manager, has reached an agreement with SMT Energy LLC, an experienced developer and operator of renewable energy and energy storage projects in the US, to jointly develop, own, and operate multiple battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the United States. The partnership incorporates a ready-to-build portfolio of ten standalone BESS projects, with a combined capacity of 100 MW.
Battery energy storage is emerging as a key technology to effectively integrate with the renewable energy infrastructure and in the world’s successful transition to a sustainable clean energy system. In the longer-term, wider deployment and the commercialization of battery storage technologies should further reduce the installation cost for batteries such as lithium-ion batteries or high-temperature flow batteries.
