Anellotech has successfully demonstrated the continuous processing of post-consumer plastic waste into light olefins and aromatics using its Plas-TCat technology that employs a single thermal catalytic reactor to convert a broad range of mixed waste plastics into chemical feedstocks such as benzene, toluene, and xylene as well as light olefins, e.g., ethylene, propylene, and butylene which can be used to make virgin-quality plastics.
The use of steam crackers to convert mixed plastics waste to aromatics and olefins is another promising route chosen by industry majors. The Plas-TCat is advantageous due to its high olefin and aromatic hydrocarbon selectivity, high scalability, broad feedstock tolerance, as well as its substantial carbon dioxide emissions savings compared to industrial steam crackers.
