Patent ranking involves a large number of parameters varying from domain to domain and jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Broadly, we can divide the parameters into two heads, objective and subjective parameters. The objective parameters include bibliographic data points, technical data points (based on categorizing patents into taxonomy heads), and legal data points. The subjective parameters include in-depth manual analysis of the patents to check for detectability, claim strength, and business impact. All the parameter values are weighted based on the importance of the parameter in the field of study or based on the usage of the final patent ranking. The final patent scores are calculated, and the patents are ranked as Platinum, Gold, and Silver based on their scores.
