UK’s government has selected Equinor’s H2H Saltend to proceed as one of the first large scale hydrogen projects in the UK

The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has announced that Equinor’s Hydrogen to Humber Saltend (H2H Saltend) production facility has successfully progressed to the due diligence stage of the Phase-2 cluster sequencing process. Hydrogen to Humber Saltend (H2H Saltend) is Equinor’s flagship project with a 600-megawatt low carbon hydrogen production plant, located at the Saltend Chemicals Park. Equinor is also planning a 1.2-gigawatt low carbon hydrogen production facility in the Humber which combined with H2H Saltend could deliver 18 percent of the UK government’s target of ten gigawatts hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
The production of hydrogen with a low carbon footprint is essential to achieving net zero industrial clusters. While fossil gas is often seen as a transition fuel towards a fully decarbonized energy mix, a low-carbon 100% hydrogen power station could be a potential alternative technology in near future.
