Removr, a Norwegian company that develops solutions for removing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, has entered an MoU with CO₂ storage leader Carbfix. The partners aim to co-develop a demonstration project for a Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility in Iceland with a minimum capacity of 300 tons of CO₂ per year and are willing to explore the potential for co-developing a large-scale DAC plant in Iceland. The DAC pilot will be the world’s first solid sorbent 1-million-ton plant, using Removr’s zeolite-based technology that captures CO₂ molecules in microporous pellets.

Application of DAC in small-scale pilots has already been successfully implemented in the space and petroleum industries which is one of the promising negative emission technologies, and one of the few proven technology options available to remove CO₂ directly from the atmosphere.
