Burcon JV, Merit Functional Foods have launched exceptionally soluble and smooth Peazazz C™ pea protein ingredient
Peazazz C™ pea protein, a distinctively different pea protein that enables a smooth, grit-free texture in ready-to-drink (“RTD”) beverages, has been introduced by Merit Functional Foods Corporation in collaboration with Burcon NutraScience Corporation, a global technology leader in the development of plant-based proteins for foods and beverages. This product can support Merit in increasing its market penetration in the protein ingredients space.
CULT Food Science highlights investee company Pearlita’s successful development of cultivated Oyster’s prototype
CULT Food Science Corp, an innovative investment platform has announced that Pearlita Foods has developed sustainable and ethical oyster prototype, while having the same appearance and flavor as a regular oyster from the ocean. The Prototype’s unique mushroom and seaweed base and Pearlita’s inventive flavor blend offer the cultured oyster a pure, delicate, and real taste and texture of the ocean. Additionally, Pearlita intends to develop biodegradable oyster shells that will make shucking its cultivated oysters easier for consumers.
Lithuanian firm receives seed investment to manufacture mealworm protein insect components for the food business
The Lithuanian food technology company Divaks has acquired €3 million in early funding, to develop yellow mealworm ingredients for meat substitutes, sports nutrition, snacks, confections, and pet food. To improve the growing, breeding, and processing conditions for the mealworms, the company intends to continue its R&D with academic institutions. Compared to raising livestock, this type of protein is more environmentally friendly, using less land and water and emitting less greenhouse gases.
Givaudan: Buehler, Cargill, ITAL and FoodTech Hub Latam will work together to drive Latin American food innovation with the new Tropical Food Innovation Lab
Three leading giants, Givaudan, Bühler, and Cargill, have formed a consortium in collaboration with the FoodTech HUB Latam and ITAL, Food Technology Institute, to build a food innovation centre in the city of Campinas. The new hub will be a Latin American go-to place for connecting and developing sustainable, future foods and beverages. Start-ups, companies, investors, universities and research institutes will have a direct access to high-end technologies for rapid prototyping and connect to a global food technology ecosystem that will drive rapid innovation in the food and beverage sector.

MeaTech 3D Ltd., has signed a memorandum of understanding for the co-development of 3D-printed cultured structured seafood with Umami Meats. This collaboration will open the door to the Asian market, especially Singapore, the only country licensed to produce and distribute cultured meat. MeaTech’s innovative 3D bioprinting technology enables the production of complex meat products with pinpoint accuracy and industrial production speed without compromising cell viability.
DTI and CelluComp have collaborated to work on a fiber-based packaging material made from sugar beet pulp
The Danish Institute of Technology (DTI) and CelluComp have developed Curan, a fiber-based packaging materials made from micro-fibrillated cellulose of sugar beet pulp and ultra-thin biodegradable coatings that block oxygen, water and fat. It is a compostable and biodegradable packaging material. This new type of packaging has the potential to replace plastic packaging material.
